Call me cynical....


Love like that is like the lottery. It happens, but not nearly as often as the songs, movies and books like to portray. It is about a billion to one. People DO win the lottery, but they have to buy tickets- they have to play. SO you can spend your life getting new tickets every week, hoping for the winner or you can make your own fortune.

I used to think love like that was real. Passion, delirium etc.. Bought a LOT of tickets. Whenever I thought I had a winner, turned out to be all on my end.

So now... I think the better metaphor is a favorite jacket. You love it, you wear it all the time. You get your lunch on it. It is a bit raggedy but it fits so well you could not think of wearing another. It has all your favorite stuff in the pockets. It is not in style anymore, but you love it all the same. You are hard on it- toss it about, stuff it in the closet in summer, step on it, sit on it ,but when the winter winds blow, it is the first thing you reach for because you know it will keep you warm. Its there for you, it does not mind too much the mustard stain from last year, it remembers the time it was torn and the careful stitching it was given. It may not be sparkly and NEW like all the others wear, It may be a bit old fashioned, It may not make you feel ultra sexy, but the relationship is deeper, longer lasting, more stable. You look in the mirror and don't look like a super model everyone wants but you remember the first time you put it on and how great it felt and all the years (months) in between and with a grin, you go about your day :)

New coats may have great style and hot fashion behind them but they are often made in tiwan and not as reliable. Who wants to buy a new coat every 3 months or even 3 years? Sure it may look cool and have more pockets, but will it still fit you when you gain 50 pounds? or if you were paralized? or if you go a bit nuts?
Window shop but you know where your best bet is.

For those of you with out coats, it is probably already near you.
