Epidemics, Infestations, and the Rain of Fire: Before I get started I want to say that New Braunfels is a beatiful place. I am not bitching about it. Beautiful clean streets, old houses with lots of archetictural beauty, and wonderful people are just some of the assets this quaint little german town has to offer. Today, I enjoyed one of my favorite activities, buying supplies. I know this probably sounds funny but its kinda neat when you realize that you can go out and buy your meat at a butcher, buy your bread and pastries at a bakery, visit the diary for some fresh milk products, or a farm stand for some fruits and vegetables, go to a little hardware/general store for all your other needs. To know people have been visiting these same stores for over100 years. To walk in and have the people inside know exactly what you need and your name is refreshing compared to walking into a superstore and being lost in the crowd. The quality is also so much better because these people take pride in what their company produces because thier family name is on the line. Having a good name is important in Texas.

Its a point of pride to walk down the street and have people constantly stop you to ask how your child or you husband is (Texans don't seem to understand the whole living together thing any male or female who is living together married or not is considered married) Its wonderful to hear how people respect your mate, or think you have done a great job teaching your child how to treat others. Small old towns like this afford you such pleasures.

I have been sick for a week. I came home and on my doorstep was some soup and a get well letter. I had a hell of a time getting the soup open becuase they sealed it shut with so much tape it was nearly impossible to get off. New Braunfels is having a flu and strep epidemic. over half the kids in the district we live in are out sick.My whole household has been sick. Antibiotics are a way of life right now. Let me tell you I am sick of being sick and I would very dearly like to have my voice back. Teaching classes without being able to speak very loud causes some problems.

This last week has been cleanup time around here. Getting servers up and running after the worm.So many sites where down. The email was gone for 5 days things truly sucked. but hey it taught us we are all vunerable. What if that worm had carried a package that erased each harddrive on contact. or some other annoying and devestating payload? Who ever made it should be beat.

Was driving along this morning doing my errands for the week.when the alarm came over the radio.. This scared the crap out of me as I have never actually been someplace where the alarm has come on except when I was in the big California earthquake. All i kept thinking was oh god we are getting bombed. Cause there was no storm in site. The truth was we are getting bombed in texas. Just not in the traditional sense. This morning between 8am and 8:15 am the space shuttle Columbian exploded over North Texas. A rain of debris has been falling over east and central texas. So please if you live here and you find something unusual call the police don't touch it! And god bless the families that lost thier 7 heros today. Lets hope we never have to ssee something like this again.

oh and one last thing in geek news http://3dna.net/ is a cool site where you can dl a complete 3d environment for your desktop. Its not very practicle for everyday use but hey its cool and very geeky.
